Ans: You can't remove it. You have to open the top all the way to fill. I use the decanter but using the faucet hose I think would be fine.

3.Does the cord get sucked in so it isn't laying on the counter?

Ans: Cord is quite short, about 24-30 inches, so, No, it isn't long enough to lay on the counter.
